| Q: What is an example application for the PSM-2? | A: A lawnmower manufacturer
wants to measure certain mechanical properties on a riding lawnmower:
temperature, pressure, RPM and torque. The pressure and torque sensors
are 4-20mA current loop sensors and the test engineer wants to isolate
the power to the sensors so he excludes any potential noise from the
test caused by vehicle power. A PSM-2 mounted in the cover of the HyperLogger supplies power to the sensors only when a reading is being taken and as dictated by the program in the HyperLogger and the 5Vdc control line output. This conserves battery power and insures more accurate measurements. |
| Q: What is the current capacity of the PSM-2? | A: The 5-volt output
is capable of supplying 40mA. The user-defined output is capable of
a total of 100mA and can operate up to 4 individual 4-20mA sensors.
Each can be set to Continuous ON or to be under control of an external
control signal (TTL 0-5Vdc). The output voltage is regulated and can
be set at 3 different levels, 10, 15, to 24Vdc. All outputs are short-circuit
protected. Note that many 4-20mA transmitters can actually run at voltages considerably less than the typical 24Vdc specified. |
| Q: Is the PSM-2 available as a built-in feature on the Logic Beach loggers? | A: Yes, the following
configurations are available: PSM-2: The power supply module mounted in an enclosure utilizing an external power source. Use with HyperLogger (HL-1) HyperLogger 200 system or ModuLogger ML-300 system. Power source required is either from data logger power source or other. MLPSM-2: For use with the ModuLogger system. Mounted in a ModuLogger stack and intended for sensor power supply when DC (external) power is available and not configured with the ML-BATT. Power source required. MLBATT-PSM2: For use with the ModuLogger system. Mounted in a ModuLogger stack and intended for sensor power supply. Power is supplied from included 6 D cell batteries. PSM2-PP: This is a self-contained unit for stand-alone use. Contains batteries, 6 D cells and power supply circuitry. Use with any logger, alone or where ever sensor power is required and not available. |
| Q: Can the PSM-2 be used for other applications? | A: Yes, the PSM-2
is designed to be very flexible and is offered as the PSM-2PP which
is a stand-alone programmable sensor power supply capable of 100mA
at 5, 10, 15, 24Vdc outputs. This product is ideal for many applications
ranging from a warning system backup power unit to portable Panel
Meter power to sensor and power for competitor's loggers. Think of
it as a cleanly packaged, programmable battery (6 D cells) in a box!
